It's Just Not Wise
The Chinese government is really beginning to come down hard on citizens caught
taking part in illegal gambling activities, anything from private land poker
games to vast online casino gambling rings are under attack by Chinese police.
The news is becoming increasingly filled with reports concerning illegal
gambling ring busts in Asia. From Malaysia to Japan, types of land and online
casino gambling are strictly forbidden and illegal gamblers are facing harsher
jail sentences as the courts hope to send the message that illegal gambling is
simply not worth the repercussions.
An online casino gambling ring was busted earlier in the year and the courts
just recently sentenced those involved in the gambling ring to long prison terms
in addition to millions in fines. A new case is significantly less high-profile
but could still mean up to 22 gamblers facing six months in jail and/or as much
as $5,000 in fines. While the money may seem a bit insignificant compared to the
$80,000 that the Singapore police department collect from the gambling bust, the
fines for the actually head of the gambling ring faces much tougher punishment.
The gambling ring was creatively disguised as a funeral wake as a cover for the
large gathering of land and online casino gamblers looking to participate in
some land gambling games. Individuals looking to participate were able to
proceed into the gambling den and then bet their monies. Gambling ring busts
frequently involve large numbers of criminals because those dealing within a
poker ring to even those simply gambling their monies all face criminal charges
if the gambling ring is busted. |
