Tragic End for Family of Spammer
Just a few months ago Edward Davidson was sentenced to 21 months in prison for
spamming internet users all over the world. Davidson was considered the “spam
king” by many and earned his nickname because he was primarily responsible for
flooding millions of email inboxes with spam messages every single day. Anyone
with an email address was susceptible to his spamming – online casino gamblers
to those participating in ecommerce. Sadly though Davidson escaped prison with
the help of his wife and then apparently shot and killed members of his family,
including his wife and child.
The police department have not confirmed any of the details in the case except
for the fact that Davidson was one of those killed by a gunshot wound at the
scene of the crime. Also shot and killed were a woman and a toddler. Although
not confirmed by the police, it is assumed that this is a case of a
murder-suicide, with the man’s wife and toddler as victims. Davidson’s
sentencing was certainly not unexpected and the online casino gambling industry,
and internet users everywhere were in fact thankful that the U.S. courts put a
stop to Davidson’s spam abuse.
Unfortunately though no one could have known that Davidson would only serve two
of the 21 months of his sentence before escaping and murdering his family; a
tragic end without question.
Spamming and internet fraud are some of the major concerns for the internet in
the coming years. Online casinos and ecommerce site have encountered setbacks in
the past several years in attempts to stay ahead of fraudsters and spammers in
terms of technology and software protection. And while fighting fraudsters and
spammers is an ongoing battle, technology today is increasingly efficient at
protecting consumers when they are using the internet. |
