Still Shafting the Online Casinos
The U.S. online casino gambling industry has one more shaft coming at it now
that the New York Racing Association (NYRA) is launching a more extensive web
presence for the state’s horseracing industry. The U.S. government passed the
UIGEA in late 2006 and the repercussions of that piece of legislation continue
to have far-reaching implications for the offshore online casinos that are
banned from accessing U.S. gamblers. As the U.S. racing industry continues to
expand and offer state horserace betting through the Internet, other nations are
crying foul.
The European Commission has specifically begun an investigation into the UIGEA
and U.S. internet gambling policies because the EU online casinos are claiming
unfair discrimination against foreign companies. Because the U.S. has carve-outs
in place for U.S. companies and does not allow foreign companies the ability to
compete in the horserace betting industry, EU companies are pushing for
additional compensation from the U.S. – compensation that will directly benefit
the online casino gambling companies that suffered severe losses to gambling
profits.
The newest deal for the U.S. horseracing industry involves the NYRA and a new
Express Funding project that will give the NYRA an increased Web presence and an
ability to fully process online bets for the state’s horse races. The Express
Funding phase for the NYRA was initiated by Sona Mobile, a software solutions
provider that specifically provides internet technologies and systems to help
companies manage online transactions and accounts. The Express Funding phase is
just one part of Sona Mobile’s efforts to launch a fully integrated wagering
platform for the NYRA. |
