A Online Casino and Betting Companies Push Back
Parts of Australia seemed determined to continue unconstitutionally blocking
foreign online casinos and betting sites from equal and fair access to the
Australian gambling industry. Betfair is the major gambling group that has been
caught in the crosshairs – the company has adamantly demanded fair access to the
gambling market in Western Australia and is now in the process of legal action
that will similarly open the New South Wales gambling market to foreign online
casino gambling operators.
The online casino betting industry all over Australia is only just now in the
processing of truly opening to foreign operators and some of the autonomous
regions are sticking to their outdated and discriminatory regulations. Betfair
and Sportingbet are the two main international companies filing lawsuits and
contesting the allegedly unconstitutional restrictions. The Western Australia
High Courts only just struck down its discriminatory legislation once Betfair
pressed the case all the way to the High Courts demanding fair access to WA land
and online casino bettors – the company is attempting the same process now in
the NSW region.
Based on the High Courts decision to open the WA land and online casino betting
markets to foreign companies, both Betfair and Sportingbet feel that they have a
reasonable strong case against the discriminatory advertising restrictions in
the region. Foreign online betting companies are not able to advertise in local
media, including newspaper, television, magazines, and other media formats while
domestic gambling companies have regulated access to all of these outlets. While
there is no guarantee that Betfair and Sportingbet will win their case in NSW,
there is a strong chance. |
