Officially Pulled
Causing some fervor in the online casino gambling industry is the decision by
the ASA to ban a Spiderman advertisement that was targeted at adults, though
adult marketed sites. Littlewoods offers its internet gamblers access to several
Marvel comic themed slots games and naturally wants to pull as much money from
the access to that popular brand as is possible. But the Advertising Standards
Authority (ASA) in the UK feels that the online banner advertisement has appeal
to children because the image of Spiderman is a cartoon, and for that reason
stands firm by its decision to pull the advertisement and ban its future use.
The downside of all of the debate in the advertising and online casino gambling
communities is the fact that it makes some of the more popular licensed and
themed slots games are harder sell for the internet gambling companies. The
Marvel comic brand is hugely recognizable all over the world and the UK
especially, but the ASA’s current ban on the Siderman ad leaves some questioning
where the bans will stop.
The fact of the matter is, Littlewoods, in working with Future Publishing did
everything right in crafting their advertisement and even ensured that the
target market viewing the sites with the online banner ad were well above the
legal gambling age – the average age of readers comes in at 41. So considering
that there was little chance that children would view the online casinos
advertisement leaves some questioning why the ASA continues to enforce the ban
on the ad.
What it really comes down to is an increasing global concern over underage
gamblers accessing the online casinos – spokespersons for Littlewoods though
assert that the company is one of the safest internet gambling companies in the
international industry. The company uses top technology and has stringent
policies and place that monitor new accounts and ensure that underage online
gamblers do not have access to the site. |
