Just Don't Gamble There
Land and online casino gambling is becoming a big issue in Canada – there are
certainly regulations in place for the land gambling industry, but the
government just isn’t clear about restrictions on internet gambling. And while
legislation regarding the online casinos may be shaky, the land gambling
regulations are clear cut and well established…unfortunately that hasn’t stopped
some Canadian residents from illegally offering land gambling services in
Toronto, Canada. The Toronto Police Department announced the arrest of 47
individuals in a gambling ring bust just this past week.
Those involved in illegal land and online casino gambling operations will face
hefty fines and even jail terms if convicted – especially because of the
large-scale nature of last week’s gambling bust. Those arrested allegedly either
operated, owned, and were present at the four locations that police raided.
Interestingly enough, although the land gambling ring allegedly spanned four
business premises, only Cdn $12,000 was confiscated in relation to the gambling
activities – this is a relatively small amount where gambling is concerned.
Police have not yet released any of the additional details related to the case –
the amount of gambling monies processed through the operation or the number of
people involved. Two of the 47 arrested included minors – they are not allowed
in common gaming houses or the online casinos. The two underage individuals are
facing charges related to the fact that they were in the gaming locations. No
word yet if any of the arrested are out on bail, but GambleCraft will continue
to update readers on the state of this Canadian land gambling case as it
unfolds. |
