The conference took place in Paris, France and included more than 1,500 participants from 150 countries. The meeting took place over four days and was hosted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). The 1,670 conference participants agreed that the time had come to relax previous severe restrictions on the internet. Domain name registrations were the hot topic at the conference and the regulators came to consensus regarding relaxing the current restrictions on top-level domain names.
