The Geography of the Internet

The landscape of the Internet is changing rapidly thanks to some new decisions and regulation relaxations decided at the 32nd International Public Meeting. The conference took place in Paris, France and included more than 1,500 participants from 150 countries. The new policy changes announced will have a startling effect on the international Web community – companies and industries all over the world will have new access to targeted domain names. Every internet-based industry and company, from the online casinos to e-commerce sites have new opportunities.

The meeting took place over four days and was hosted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). The 1,670 conference participants agreed that the time had come to relax previous severe restrictions on the internet. Domain name registrations were the hot topic at the conference and the regulators came to consensus regarding relaxing the current restrictions on top-level domain names. Specifically online casino gambling companies (or any business) will now be able to make their specific company brand into a domain. More pointedly, while the internet was previously restricted in the types of domains, there are now endless opportunities and .com, .org, and .uk, are just three of the now innumerable domain names.

Online individuality is the main buzz word now. Online casino gambling companies and others can tailor their brand and really corner their market with the right marketing programs. The CEO at ICAAN, Dr. Paul Twoney elaborates on the policy change, “It will allow groups, communities and business to express their identities online.” The policy change though seemingly small at this point really has the potential to drastically change the landscape of the internet.
