Online Casinos Have Faith
American land and online casino gamblers have sufficient reason to doubt U.S.
politicians and their land and internet gambling policies. The last several
years have seen some of the most disruptive gambling legislation in the world,
and even the pressure of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) has not managed to
sway the Bush administration from pointedly targeting the offshore online
casinos. Interest groups in the U.S., namely the Poker Players Alliance have
followed politics closely over the past several months and have officially
endorsed Barack Obama.
While neither candidate is outright supporting the online casinos and
legalization of internet poker, Obama’s policies and personal habits align his
campaign more closely with the efforts of the PPA and others interested in
neutralizing the offshore gambling ban. A large reason for endorsing Obama
rather than McCain for the next election comes down to the fact that the
Republican party has made a disaster out of the current state of affairs and
McCain’s politics closely resemble those of the Bush administration.
Also important online casino and poker gambling supporters is the fact that
Obama is a self-proclaimed poker player. And while his campaign is not actively
advertising his support for the internet gambling industries, the PPA is putting
faith in Obama’s politics if he gets elected as president. The PPA is comprised
of not only online poker enthusiasts from all over the world, but also some
major poker pros have publicly voiced their support for the Obama campaign and
Democrats in general. The consensus in the poker industry comes down to looking
at which candidate is more likely to neutralize the UIGEA – and hands down that
is Obama. Whether he will actually alter the current internet casino gambling
legislation is a whole other issue, but the fact remains that of the two he is
much more likely. |
