Sponsorship Confrontation
Poker News and the UltimateBet.com online casino poker gambling site are in a
bit of a stand-off over Tiffany Michelle, the only woman poker player to place
in this year’s World Series of Poker event. The issue comes down to the fact
that Poker News feels slighted after Michelle signed a sponsorship deal with
Ultimate Bet just a few days into the Main Event of the WSOP without consulting
with the news portal. While the sponsorship deal with the Ultimate Bet online
casino poker gambling site would normally fall outside of Poker News’ realm of
influence, Poker News was Michelle’s primary sponsor throughout the majority of
the WSOP events.
Michelle, a U.S. land and online casino poker gambler from California, has
gained prominence in the international poker gambling scene and has slowly risen
into the realm of a prominent poker professional. Poker News is fairly outraged
by the company’s specific exclusion from the negotiations and sponsorship deal
and the Vice President at Poker News, Justin Robert Huxley, remarked, “As an
organization we felt completely sabotaged by Tiffany, her agent and Ultimate
Bet.”
It is not entirely uncommon for online casino poker gamblers to have multiple
sponsorship deals in place, however it usually operates with open disclosure
between the poker gambling companies, news portals, and any other sponsors.
Huxley believes that Michelle and her agent specifically exploited loopholes in
her contract to facilitate the deal with Ultimate Bet. With Michelle’s career on
the rise, Huxley expressed disappointment that the young poker professional
showed a “lack of respect and professionalism” through last week’s actions. |
