Online Casino Gambling Takes a Chance
A look at both of the U.S. presidential hopefuls reveals that Barack Obama is
almost clearly the better choice when it comes to the online casino gambling
industry. Interestingly enough though, that decision is based off of party
politics more so than the specific platforms of either candidate because neither
John McCain nor Obama have released an official stance on the internet gambling
issue. Both candidates are pro-land gambling, but the Republican platform is
very dead-set against the internet gambling industry and little that McCain
alludes to can assuage the growing concerns about the impact of the Bush
administration on the U.S.’s relationship with international online casinos and
foreign governments.
Obama and McCain have both publically acknowledges that they enjoy forms of land
casino and poker gambling but both have also remained tight-lipped on their
plans for the U.S. internet gambling industry. The Republican-backed UIGEA,
which effectively bans offshore online casinos from accessing U.S. players, has
made most in the industry skeptical that McCain would support legalizing and
regulating the internet gambling industry. This is despite the fact that McCain
is a self-admitted craps player. According to his aides and industry press
McCain can often be found spending long hours testing his luck at the craps
tables.
Obama on the other hand benefits from the fact that Democrats traditionally back
gambling efforts – both in the land and online casino gambling industries. So
although he has not officially stated that he plans to legalize/regulate/alter
the current U.S. gambling industry, poker players all over the U.S. (and the
world) are banking on the fact that Obama is an avid poker player and will
likely support a more liberal U.S. gambling climate. |
