Willin Speaks for Internet Poker
In a country where online casinos poker gambling is still a very limited sector
of the country’s gambling industry, some in the government are looking to deter
Finnish gamblers from using foreign gambling sites by offering a state-run poker
gambling site. The initiative is spearheaded by Finland’s Minister for Culture,
Stefan Willin. Willin brought up the idea of offering Finnish players a
state-run online casinos poker monopoly because any current profits from that
industry are going outside of Finland and Willin asserts that taxes from the
industry could benefit the country.
That is not the only reason though, as many other countries have found out in
recent years, online casinos gambling that is left unregulated and licensed can
have some serious drawbacks as far as organized crime is concerned. Additionally
issues arise when a country is not able to curb underage gamblers and the
exploitation of problem online casinos gambling.
Willin stated in a news release that legalization of the Finnish online casinos
poker gambling industry would has some definite advantages. He comments, “It
would be better to offer players a legal and responsible alternative.
Responsibility would mean setting an 18 age limit and requiring players to
identify themselves.”
Willin has proposed that Finland pass online casinos gambling legislation
similar to the current gambling industry in Sweden – a tightly run state
gambling monopoly that focuses on providing a safe environment for internet
gamblers within the country. And for those skeptics in the government who note
that online gambling isn’t extremely popular yet, Willin comments, “It is
difficult to halt the rise in the popularity of online poker,” that’s his
justification for stepping up now with new legislation. |
