Two Ministers Meet in Antigua
Ok, so it sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, but the truth is, the UK
Minister for Sport, Gerry Sutcliffe, and the Antiguan Minister of Finance, Dr.
Errol Cort met last week to discuss Antigua’s online casinos gambling
regulations and how they held up to the standards of the UK’s white list
qualifications. Though Antigua was initially denied a spot on the UK white list
last September, the small island nation is positive that it has some of the best
online casinos gambling regulations in the world and thus deserves the right to
advertise for internet gambling in the UK.
Apparently those in the British government just may agree with the Antiguan
Minister as the government agreed to meet with an Antiguan delegation looking to
gain the approval for white listing. After the meeting, Cort commented that he
anticipates that the Antiguan online casinos industry will have approval for
white listing very soon. Cort comments, “We are extremely encouraged by the
reception we received from Minister Sutcliffe and his staff.” The UK will
reconsider last year’s decision to deny Antigua access to the UK market via
advertising.
The Kahnawake gaming jurisdiction was one of the handful of other online casinos
licensing and regulation jurisdictions that did not meet the white listing
standards and thus cannot advertise in the UK. Cort was very optimistic once
leaving the negotiations with the British delegates – he feels that both sides
are working together. He notes, “Our standards are the highest in the world and
we view the whitelisting as important to demonstrate our commitment to the
highest standards in the supervision and oversight of this dynamic industry.” |
