Strong Land and Online Casinos Industry in UK
The UK’S Minister of Culture and Sports, James Purnell, has announced that the
planned land casinos will be licensed in the coming year. There was no specific
mention about the previously planned supercasino, but most land and online
casinos analysts agree that Purnell will soon announce that the supercasino is
officially off the agenda for the UK gambling industry – it was one of the first
things that he and the current Prime Minister stopped when taking office.
The supercasino was scheduled to be constructed in Manchester because of the
boost to the city’s economy and tourism that would come with it. But as plans
for the super casino are nixed, Manchester may have hopes of winning one of the
eight large and eight small gambling licenses that will be awarded. Many in the
land and online casinos industry are anticipating licensing in the coming
months, and some have already announced that they are flat out not interested in
competing for a land license in the UK.
A spokesperson for the prominent betting company, Ladbrokes, comments on the new
prospective licenses, “We have conducted a review of our casino strategy and
have decided to withdraw from the process due to the length of time it would
take to generate sufficient return on the capital spend required.” With online
casino gambling at an all time high and expected to grow exponentially for the
next five years at least, it is probably a safe bet that Ladbrokes can stay
afloat in the betting industry without venturing into land gambling.
The land gambling industry has been hit harder in the last year than the online
casinos although both faced new and more stringent regulations and restrictions. |
