RAY is Ready for Online Casinos
RAY is a land gambling company operating in Finland that is currently in support
of further investigating the Culture and Sport Minister’s, Stefan Wallin,
suggestion that Finland offer domestic online casino poker services. Though
there is still much debate within the government, and licensing and approval is
a long way off, RAY has already voiced concerns about initiative. Land gambling
is very popular in Finland, and online casinos gambling is on the rise even
though Finnish players must use foreign internet gambling sites.
The nay-sayers in the Finnish government argue that gambling addiction is
already high in the country and domestic gambling would only compound the
problem. The Communications Director at RAY, Matti Hokkanen, acknowledged that
operating online casinos poker would require additional technical details, and
validated the concerns expressed by Kari Paaso, speaking for the Ministry of
Social Affairs and Health about “domestic games [making] everything even easier
for gaming addicts.” Hokkanen remarks, "Launching the operation would not be
without complications, however, as it would undoubtedly add to some individuals’
gambling problems." Part of RAY’s concerns lie in the fact that the company has
a current monopoly on the land gambling industry in the country.
Other companies though have less qualms about implementing online casinos poker
in the Finnish market. The Communications Director at Veikkaus Oy asserted that
the company is prepared to begin offering internet poker as soon as it is
legalized. He comments, "It is not an impossible idea at all, should the
government and the gaming license holders so agree. We have plenty of technical
and business experience in such matters."
