Legal Action from Germany
The online casinos gambling industry is in for some changes once the European
Commission takes legal action against the country for violations in EU trade
agreements. Germany just weeks ago enacted a new piece of legislation that
further protected the country’s government run gambling and online casinos
betting operations which is what made the EU promptly look toward legal action
as the only way that the country will respond to requests that the country allow
out of state internet gambling and betting companies to operate in Germany.
Cases can sometimes last months and months – even years, when taken into the
European Court of Justice, but the Commission is hoping that the case will be
resolved sooner than that, and preferably out of court. The EU consulted with
Germany prior to the new law that took effect January 1, 2008 but its seems to
have had little or no effect on the country’s position regarding foreign online
casinos bettors and gamblers.
All of the states within Germany are a part of the foreign online casinos
gambling and betting ban, all 17 German States. This means a loss of a
significant part of the industry for companies that had already found a way into
the market. Germany has a strong betting industry and emerging for online
casinos, and perhaps that is a large part of why the Commission is so outraged
that the German government will not let in foreign online gambling companies. |
