The Fight for Poker Doesn't End
For those in the Washington State courts who hoped to use an overload of
paperwork to discourage a lawsuit against the State law that punishes online
casinos poker as a felony offense, have apparently failed. Lee Rousso is a
lawyer in Washington State who is determined to have his day in court as he
contests the Washington State law. Most in the online casinos industry agree
that the Washington State law is both draconian and does not take into
consideration the idea that internet poker is a game of skill rather than
chance.
Rousso has pursed this case for the past year, and has even made it to court
once and it’s at this point that the opposing lawyers and judge pushed an
overwhelming amount of discovery paperwork from Rousso. The real crux of the
issue though actually lies in the fact that Washington State is one of the only
states to have a distinctive stance on online casinos gambling. Rousso remarks
that "Somewhere, sometime, a court is going to have to decide if states can
regulate Internet gambling…it's inevitable, so it may as well be this case."
Rousso commented on the court’s decision to allow an absurd amount of
information be requested in defense of online casinos poker. "The state wants me
to produce massive amounts of information related to Internet poker," he notes.
He goes on though to show optimism at the fact that the case now has “a new
judge,” and Rousso has “renewed optimism about getting [his] day in court,
hopefully by around May 2008." |
