Betting Not Recommended
The Taiwanese government is not putting up with sportsbetting any longer, as
evidenced by the recent gambling ring bust in Central Taiwan last week. Asia is
slowly becoming more open to online casinos and internet gambling, but it is a
slow process, and one a transition that is certainly only at the beginning
stages.
At present, online sportsbetting (and really any internet gambling activities
whether it be online casinos or online betting), are illegal in Taiwan, and the
gambling rings that are operating are traditionally run by organized crime.
Police in Taiwan reported that they successfully raided one of the largest
online sportsbetting rings that the city has ever seen.
The Taiwanese government is so serious about controlling illegal online gambling
at casinos and sportsbooking sites that they have even developed a special task
force to investigate criminal activity and organize the raids.
The recent raids in Taichung City and Puli Township led to the arrest of nine
people allegedly involved in the online sportsbetting ring. In addition to
arresting those involved, the police raid seized related computers and documents
at the raid locations in addition to millions of dollars in gambled monies.
