Resolution Services for Online Casino Players
Internet gamblers may often feel like they have no options when it comes to
bringing complaints up against some of the major online casino gambling sites –
after all these are major companies not always readily available to handle major
disputes. But that’s where player protection agencies are able to really assist
the internet gamblers. eCOGRA is one of the top player protection agencies in
the European market and not only tests and monitors the major online casino
sites for “Fair and Safe” gambling practices, but also offers dispute resolution
between the gamblers and the internet gambling sites with an eCOGRA seal of
accreditation.
The Fair Gaming Advocate at eCOGRA, Tex Rees, noted that while the number of
complaints rose in 2007 over 2006, Rees “believes this is a result of players
becoming more aware of [eCOGRA’s] mediation service and…ability to respond
quickly in achieving a fair outcome." Although almost 12 percent of the
complaints were not for online casinos within eCOGRA’s jurisdiction, 68 percent
of the complaints that were valid were resolved in favor of the player.
Rees noted that a low “average number of valid complaints,” roughly .44 percent
per site was a “clear indication that the approved operators, together with
eCOGRA, are being effective in meeting the need for fair gaming, player
protection and responsible operator behaviour.” eCOGRA prides itself on superior
monitoring of the online casino gambling sites that carry the “Safe and Fair”
seal – just weeks ago the company released information that a handful of
gambling sites had their accreditation removed pending further research into the
companies’ practices and policies. |
