Ireland Not to be Reckoned With
The land and online casino poker gambling industry is pretty diverse and there
has never really been one country dominating the industry…at least not until
just last week at the Ladbrokes Poker Million tournament that took place in
London last week. The tournament had a wide and varied number of entrants from
all over the world and dozens of different nationalities, but surprisingly, the
final table event was pretty much representing talented poker players Ireland
alone. Ireland is really just beginning to jump of the band wagon of land and
online casino gambling and betting offerings and perhaps it is this very
liberalization of the Irish market that is at the root of the new influx of
talented Irish players into the market.
Ladbrokes hosted the annual Poker Millions tourney in London and invited players
from all over the world to test their skills and hope that they’d walk home with
the one million dollar top prize. Ladbrokes is a highly respected in the
industry – originally a top land bookie, the gambling group now has extensive
interest within the online casino and poker gambling industries in addition to
land and internet betting activities. Ladbrokes has really expanded in the past
several years and the company is quickly building up a base of talented and
loyal online poker gamblers.
As for the Ladbrokes Poker Million tournament, Marty Smyth took home the top
honors and the million dollar prize – but he had a big fight on his hands with
the several other Irish land and online casino poker gamblers vying for the top
prize. Others at the final table included: Eoghan O’Dea, Ciaran O’Learyy, Liam
Flood, Svein Petter Nielsen (Norway), and Kevin Allen (UK). |
