D'Amato Presses for New Regulations
It’s no secret that the Poker Players Alliance is attempting to legalize online
casino poker gambling in the US market. The PPA has been heavily and actively
involved in the industry for the past two years – just around the time that the
US government passed the UIGEA and forced the majority of the foreign online
casinos right out of the market. Just in the past two weeks another startling
development in the never-ending attempts to close the US market to internet
gambling has the PPA publicly speaking out against the allegations as well as
publicly addressing the issue in the media.
PPA Chairman Alfonse D’Amato recently publicly addressed some of the rampant
misconceptions about the online poker industry that were only reinforced by the
Sixty Minutes program and Washington Post articles which highlighted the two
anomalies – the Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet cheating scandals. D’Amato
addressed the fact that the program and special news article highlighted a very
rare occasion for the online casino gambling and poker industry. Basically,
despite the reports, the online gambling industry is largely safe for players if
the industry is properly regulated.
Alfonse noted that the US government’s attempts to ban and block the online
casino gambling industry have not only strained foreign relations, but the
expectation is unrealistic. Alfonse instead calls for the legalization and
regulation of ht online poker gambling industry. He notes, “The attempt to
enforce an outright prohibition of online poker is deeply flawed and unworkable,
and it invades upon the personal freedoms of law-abiding adults who wish to
engage in a game of skill.” D’Amato’s speech given right around the time that
the media was focusing in on the two special features regarding the industry. |
