Possible New Land Casino Market
There is no doubt that land and online casinos are profitable – they just are no
matter how you look at the situation. Not only to the land and internet gambling
venues bring in revenue of their own accord, but land casinos also bring in
tourism, and that is a huge commodity for some countries. The latest news out of
the Caribbean centers on Jamaica’s plans to possibly allow land casinos as a way
to attract more tourism to the island. The island is hugely dependent on tourism
as a way to fuel the economy and with the economy slumping and other vacation
getaways offering gambling opportunities, Jamaica is considering the benefits of
licensing a land gambling industry.
There would be no legalization of online casinos, just land gambling venues as
land resorts and gambling venues can be designed specifically as a sort of
destination gambling getaway. Jamaica has the sand, beaches, and popular resorts
and in the coming months and year the island could begin the licensing process.
Interestingly enough, there are a surprising number of politicians supporting
this plan. The Finance Minister is spearheading the efforts but he has some high
powered support – the Prime Minister, Bruce Golding is also in support of
licensing and regulating online casinos as a way to boost tourism.
There is really very little other information available on the situation right
now, but the decision is being left to Jamaica’s cabinet right now. If the
cabinet approves the idea the land casinos would then be licensed under some
very specific restrictions. The government would look at the company’s business
model and also the track record within the industry. Companies like Harrah’s and
other major international brands are a shoo-in if they take an interest in the
land casino market in Jamaica. |
