Advertisements for Poker Regulation

Now that lobbying has proven largely ineffective, the Pokers Player Alliance is looking for new methods to reach US politicians, policy-makers, and members of Congress. The UIGEA has banned US banks from accepting transactions with foreign online casinos and internet poker sites – and the PPA is hoping that the new advertising campaign aimed at Washington DC will give members of Congress that new perspective. The US online casino gambling industry is highly controversial right now and this is a key time that the PPA is hoping to take advantage of a bit. Online gambling is really a central issue in the media these days and the planned advertisement is designed to bring more attention and thought to the fact that the UGIEA not only blocks the internet casinos, but the internet poker sites as well.

The ads are specifically going to target the issue of more regulations as a way to ensure player protection from the online casinos and internet poker sites. Licensing and regulating the internet poker gambling industry would actually allow the US more control over the sites accessing US gamblers and allow the US government to draft regulations specifically aimed at protecting gamblers from unscrupulous business practices from the online casinos and poker gambling sites.

The argument from the PPA is additionally designed to both compliment and counter the Washington Post article that aired recently. The PPA text highlights that stricter laws, rather than an outright online casino ban, would be much more effective at protecting the US internet gamblers that find loopholes and ways to circumvent the strict regulations regarding internet gambling.
