Messy Litigation
You wouldn’t that winning a huge lottery or online casino gambling jackpot could
be more trouble than it’s worth – but just ask the four lotto winners that had
taken part in a lotto syndicate several years ago, surely they have an
interesting story. The online gambling industry has really altered a whole lot
about the gambling industry – land casinos are forced to approach the industry
with other incentives while new sectors of the market are frequently opening up.
But some things have remained the same and blessedly simple, the lotto is still
largely unchanged in Ireland and lotto gamblers are able to regularly partake by
way of lotto syndicates.
The industry media is picking back up on the story of four lottery syndicate
winners back in 2000 who have been fighting a court case against them by a fifth
member of the syndicate who consistently paid late but now wants a share of the
Euro 2 million in lottery winnings. Unfortunately, unlike solo gamblers who win
a good prize at the online casinos and get to keep all of the winnings,
syndicates can get sticky when splitting up the prize. The courts are all new to
the online casino gambling industry and the lotto syndicates – that means the
court battle has been lengthy and the lower courts ruled in favor of the fifth
member.
The case has now gone to Ireland’s Supreme Courts and the SC justices have
delayed judgment on the case – it’s just a tricky situation really. All of the
drama though of this current case should serve as a warning for the other
gamblers who pool money to play the lotto and at the land and online casinos –
make sure the boundaries and lines are clearly marked. |
