Online Casino Fight Back
The tensions within the online casino gambling industry have gotten a bit worse
this week with the announcement that for internet gambling companies are
challenging the Swedish government. The Swedish government has vehemently
supported an internet gambling monopoly in the country yet online casinos
operating in the European Union have expressed supreme displeasure with the
continued policies and even more, with the fact that the Swedish courts and
government attempt to prosecute those companies servicing the Swedish market
while the monopoly is in place. Four major gambling companies vying for the
Scandinavian online gambling market have announced the results of a new research
study that indicates that the Swedish gambling monopoly may not actually be the
most efficient method for preventing problem and addictive gambling.
This latest report comes in reaction to last weeks news that the Swedish Inquiry
on Gambling recommended to the government that land and online betting open to
foreign companies but that online casinos and internet poker should remain under
the control of Svenske Spel, the state monopoly. The three companies, Expekt,
Unibet, Ladbrokes, and Betsson, have joined forces to fight against what the
Swedish government on this situation. The online casino gambling companies claim
that a licensed, regulated and taxed gaming market in Sweden would actually
provide better protection.
The current Sweden situation has progressively become more tense over the past
couple of years and this newest development is the next phase in the online
casinos fighting back against the monopolies. These three companies are pushing
the issue in the Swedish market and increasingly pressuring the European
Commission to force the market to open. |
