Online Gambling Decided
The online casino gambling issue in the United States is truly a sticky subject.
On the one hand you have those politicians that just pushed through the UIGEA
regulations and on the other side you have the viewpoint that the individual US
states ought to have more of a say-so in the decision. Online casinos are
straight out banned in the US market at this point; the carve-outs though allow
for certain types of the internet gambling industry into the US market. Delaware
is one of the US states liking to add sportsbetting to the list of legalized
activities in the state.
The legalization of sports wagering is a large area for debate for individuals
opposing the spread of gambling in any form – either at the land gambling venues
or through online casino gambling sites. In this case, Delaware is considering
adding land sportsbetting to the list of legalized forms of gambling in the
state. Properly regulated and taxed, the industry could bring in huge additional
revenue for the Delaware government. Adding sportsbetting through online casinos
has not yet even been mentioned really, but perhaps down the line a possibility
if new internet gambling legislation is passed through the federal government.
The move toward land sportsbetting is an attempt by the government to overcome
some of the difficulties arising from the current economic recession. Adding the
sportsbetting would open up new jobs in the state in addition to the new sources
of tax revenue. The Video Lottery Council is currently pushing for the new
legislation and will recommend the action to the state finance department. |
