The Damage Assessed: 1
The online casino and poker gambling industries are breathing a small sigh of
relief this week with the airing of the Sixty Minutes program now in the past –
and the damage to the industry was actually only very minor according to many
industry analysts. The Sixty Minutes expose has been all of the talk for the
past month as Tokwiro Enterprises and many other online poker gambling companies
prepared for the onslaught of negative attention. The expose covered the two
cheating scandals that have rocked the world over the past year. The scandals
were the largest in the history of the industry – more money was fraudulently
taken than ever before at online casinos and internet poker gambling sites.
The situation has been covered extensively on GambleCraft in the past, but, in
short, sister online poker sites Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet were both
involved in cheating scandals that have been rumored to topped $20 million in
lost funds and money fraudulently taken from internet gamblers. The two
companies are owned and operated by Tokwiro Enterprises and licensed by the
Kahnawake Gaming Commission in Canada. The first cheating scandal was uncovered
a bit over a year ago – in August, and the second of the cheating scandals was
uncovered just six months later at a sister site. Both cheating scandals were
not uncovered by the online casinos and poker sites themselves but rather the
internet poker gaming community.
The subsequent investigation has been highly controversial because of the lack
of information that was initially released to the online poker gambling industry
on the whole. Additionally, the internet casino and poker gambling industry is a
bit up in arms over the fact that no one has been prosecuted or arrested in
connection with the crimes. |
