Where'd it Come From?

Online casino gambling really took off in the late 90’s when the full potential and power of the internet began to be realized by more and more companies. Once the industry launched, Absolute Poker was not far behind those initial sites servicing the industry…the only difference – AP operates out of Costa Rica and therefore the company is completely out of the reach and jurisdiction of the G8. But none of that mattered nor does it still matter for the thousands of gamblers still placing their bets through Absolute Poker and sister site Ultimate Bet. The online casino gambling industry can, apparently, be very forgiving.

In 2007, analysts looking at the whole of the online casino poker gambling industry approximated that Absolute Poker accounted for a healthy five percent of the global gaming market. AP was a huge hit and a popular place for online poker gamblers – the company had frequent tournaments, a competitive base of players, and a strong reputation. All the while though, the details of AP were sketchy from the start.

Though there is little decisive information available on the origins of AP, the online casino poker gambling site was launched by Scott Tom and several other partners and investors. Tom and the others used Costa Rica as a base for their planned internet poker site. After the site gained some success, Scott apparently sold AP to Tokwiro Enterprises and licensed AP out of the Kahnawake Gaming Commission.
