Censoring Online Casinos Unacceptable
Australian online casino gamblers are all up in arms this week with the
announcement that the federal government is looking to put wide-sweeping
legislation and regulations in place that would block a set list of internet
gambling sites that the government deems unacceptable. ISP blocking technology
is highly controversial in the present day especially in more well-developed
countries. That is what is getting so many gamblers and internet users concerned
not necessarily that some online casinos and gambling sites will be blocked
from access to the Aussie gambling market, but instead the wider-sweeping
implications should the government follow through with the censorship.
The US has gained widespread ridicule from the international online casino
gambling industry because of the Bush administrations botched attempts to block
and ban internet gambling in the states. Now that some in the federal Australian
government are looking to take action against the online gambling industry,
representatives and politicians from the Green Party are speaking up against
this unpopular legislation.
At this point the different states in Australia have the right to decide many of
their own gambling and betting laws this too has caused some dilemmas and
concerns between the state governments but all things that have been easily
sorted out in the long run. Bob Brown is the party leader for the Green Party;
Brown is an outspoken supporter of internet rights and is currently lambasting
the government for its attempts to unnecessarily limit the freedom of the
internet and its implications for other sectors of the online and internet
marketplace. |
