Americans Like the Online Casinos
The US government is increasingly placing pressure on the online casinos and
foreign internet gambling companies to exit the US market. The Kentucky
situation has prompted some of the major gambling companies like Microgaming to
completely exit the US. And in addition to the Kentucky situation, the fact that
the US Department of Justice is attempting to prosecute online casinos for the
internet gambling activities prior to the UIGEA has some internet gambling
companies merely deciding to look into new markets until the US market calms
down. Despite all of these issues that have cropped up in the two past two years
though US players continue to head to the internet casino sites and find a way
to gamble.
Information and statistics from Media Matrix indicate that online casino
gambling in the United States is back on the rise after a sharp decline two
years ago with the implementation of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement
Act (UIGEA). Most of the online casinos backed out of the market but the few
that stayed are now benefiting from the fact that US players are heading back to
the states. One of the big problems for players centers on finding sites that
are able to effectively process transactions between US gamblers with US bank
accounts the foreign companies.
Media Matrix’s report indicated that the number of visits to online casinos from
US gamblers rose significantly in November 2008 over the previous month. These
numbers have steadily declined over the past year so it is actually quite
significant that US gamblers are once again returning to the sites and finding
ways to gamble despite the US legislation and restrictions in place. |
