VATS are Coming Back
Some online casinos and gambling companies are eligible for some major
incentives when it comes to receiving back VAT taxes from the UK government
according to a recent court ruling. The VAT taxes are imposed by the UK
government and according to the interim ruling by the UK courts Rank Group plc,
which operates gaming machines, land and online casinos, and other internet
gambling related businesses, will receive payment on the VAT taxes that were
unfairly taken over the past several years.
The government will now issue a refund to the online casino gambling group and
according to recent reports that amount could be very high. VAT is the Value
Added Tax that is added to certain types of land and online casino gambling in
the UK. The recent issue comes from the fact that the VAT tax was taken on Rank
gambling machines that were actually exempt from the VAT taxes because of EU
rules. The EU has in place very precise laws and rules concerning fiscal
neutrality –some VAT taxes on the Rank online casino gambling group violated
this neutrality rule.
The decision is not lasting at this point and is instead considered an interim
decision, which means that the case will still likely go before the European
Court of Justice for further discussion and to ensure that the law is being
properly implemented. With the slump in the UK land and online casino gambling
industry though Rank is undoubtedly hoping that the ECJ rules in the company’s
favor. |
