It's No Longer a Sure-bet: 1
Online casino poker gambling enthusiasts in the United States were heartened by
the news several months ago that internet poker gambling was close to
legalization within the state of California – that has changed a bit now though.
Proposal AB 2026 initially started as a bill that authorized an official study
into the possibilities of legalizing internet poker within the state of
California in light of all of the federal and state regulations that have to do
with the offshore and domestic online casino gambling industry.
Poker is one of the more heated topics in the controversial online casino
gambling issue – gamblers assert that poker is a game of skill more than chance
and should thus be exempted from federal legislation that bans forms internet
gambling. The classification as a game of skill would allow U.S. players access
to both domestic and foreign internet poker operators; after all, the game is
fully legal in the land gambling industry.
AB 2026 is the California Gambling Control/Intrastate Legalization Act – and
though the proposal started as a study on the possibilities of legalizing online
casino poker gambling, the purpose of the bill shifted into the straight-up
legalization of internet poker gambling. Gamblers who support the online casinos
and poker enthusiasts eagerly supported the legislation and have followed the
updates religiously.
The most recent update puts a damper on some of the enthusiasm however with the
announcement that the proposal has reverted back to its initial purpose and is
no longer looking to immediately legalize state internet online casino poker
gambling. There was extensive controversy of the prospects of legalizing poker
and the number of issues that arose from the proposal proved insurmountable. |
