Sticking to it in Regards to Online Casino Case
The BetonSports saga has an important update – three new promoters associated
with the company and under arrest and have agreed to work with the prosecution
on backing up charges and fleshing out the cases against some of the top level
former BetonSports executives. David Carruthers is the most notable of the
former executives facing charges related to operating an illegal online caisno
gambling operation for the U.S. market along with money laundering and a litany
of related charges. Carruthers was arrested prior to the government’s passage of
the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) but the UIGEA and the
intense focus on illegal online casinos and internet gambling activity has
certainly not helped Carruthers’ case.
BetonSports was one of the largest online casino sportsbetting companies
operating for the U.S. market and the arrest of Carruthers and the company’s
founder, Gary Kaplan effectively ended BetonSports’ operations and rocked the
internet sportsbetting industry. Many of those recently arrested in the case are
agreeing to plead guilty to promotion-related charges in exchange for dropping
the case if the individuals also provide information that helps the prosecution
in their cases against Carruthers, Kaplan, and other top executives in the
company.
The three arrested in the case that pled guilty to the promotion charges are all
Florida residents and all assisted BetonSports with marketing and promotion
opporuntunities in the U.S. online casino sportsbetting market.
Interestingly, even with the several individuals agreeing to testify against
Kaplan and Carruthers in the case, Kaplan is still apparently upholding his same
defense plan and not-guilty plea. |
