Questioning Online Casino Jurisdiction
Licensing the online casinos for the international market is a tough business –
it is highly competitive and there are already several major players in the
industry that are recognized for their high standards. But that doesn’t mean
that the conveniently located Port Irene licensing jurisdiction hasn’t seen an
influx of online casinos looking for licensing opportunities in the
Asian-Pacific region. The Cagayan Export Zone Authorities have come under
investigation and many officials are asking the Philippine government to fully
investigate this licensing jurisdiction for compliance with gambling regulations
in the nation.
The CEZA in Port Irene currently operates in a shady area of the legislation
that is not very clearly defined and some in the online casino gambling industry
are questioning the jurisdictions policies and practices. Archbishop Oscar Cruz
has led some of the outspoken opposition to the online casinos, sportsbetting,
and other internet gambling companies that operate out of Port Irene and the
CEZA. He has adamantly called upon the Senate to investigate the activities in
the area and to ensure that the CEZA is in fact only operating out of Port Irene
as is asserted.
The Catholic Church is very firmly against all forms of gambling, this includes
both land and online casino gambling activities. The Philippine government is
not looking to upset or anger the Church, but in the same token, by all
appearances the CEZA is not breaking any laws by offering online casino gambling
and betting to foreign gambling markets. A chief concern though for Bishop Cruz
remains the fact that the CEZA is outside of the authority of the Philippine
gambling commission, PAGCOR. |
