Ayre Facing Jail-time?
The U.S. government is finally beginning to take some action against the Bodog
Entertainment group for the company’s continued involvement in the U.S. online
casino gambling industry. The controversial UIGEA has blocked offshore online
casinos from accessing U.S. players through a ban on financial transactions with
the gambling sites. That ban has not been without intense controversy and debate
from the international internet gambling industry but while the UIGEA is
contested in Congress, it still stands as a valid and enforceable piece of U.S.
legislation.
The U.S. authorities have arrested several top executives involved in the U.S.
internet gambling industry and the U.S. media is speculating that Calvin Ayre
most likely already has a sealed arrest warrant in the U.S. for his actions over
the past nearly two years. There is little way to know for sure until the case
against Bodog is either resolved or the UIGEA is no longer in effect.
Ayre is not currently at the helm of the Bodog online casino gambling group; he
transferred ownership to the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group. That though has not
altered the fact that he has led Bodog and supported the company’s continued
presence in the U.S. internet gambling industry. The U.S. authorities in
Baltimore seized $24 million from bank accounts that are allegedly linked to
Bodog.
The announcement of the seizure of monies had many U.S. gamblers concerned for
the safety of their account balances, but since the announcement of action
against Bodog the Morris Mohawk gaming group released a statement that assured
players and the industry that the company is still very financially viable and
that Bodog will continue to operate in the U.S. market. |
