Online Casino Industry Going into the Debates
The PPA and supporters of the U.S. online casino gambling industry are left in a
precarious position now that the two presidential candidates are not looking
very pro-internet gambling. Naturally the Democrats are more pro-internet
gambling than the Republicans as a matter of tradition really, but even the
Democrats position on the issue leaves much to be desired for gamblers looking
for some assurance and detailed information on each candidate’s stance on
gambling at the online casinos. The Republican platform is decidedly
anti-internet gambling and the Democrats are unfortunately a bit wishy-washy on
the subject.
Online casino gambling in the United States is currently banned by the
controversial UIGEA – a piece of anti-internet gambling legislation that was
pushed through by the Republican Senator from Arizona, Jon Kyl. Now that the
legislation is in place, and considering that even some Democrats are a bit
adverse to legalized and regulated online casino gambling in the United States,
gamblers are wondering if they will ever get new pro-gambling legislation pushed
through Congress.
While the specific platforms for each party specify a the official position of
that party on the online casino gambling issue, some pro-internet gambling
Republicans are hoping that McCain will differ from the party on this issue. The
only other hope for Republicans supporting the pro-internet gambling initiatives
is to continue expressing their suppor of internet casino gambling in the
Republican Committee Forum up until the official platform is finalized.
Already the pro-online gambling Democrats are noting that Obama himself is an
avid poker player – that bodes well for his much touted message of “change,” at
least regarding the internet gambling industry. |
