Boosting the Online News Industry
The land news industry has seen some serious decline over the last decade as
more new-seekers all over the world are turning to the internet for the
information. Newspapers in particular have felt the pinch in the recent years as
advertising revenues are down and circulation of the newspapers continues to
decrease. In light of this sad fact, some news organizations are really
beginning to step up their internet activities to include more online news
sites, varied single interest sites, and even investments in the online casinos
and within the internet gambling industry. Of prominent news is the fact that
news giant Mecom has announced new internet gambling ventures are about to
launch all over Europe as the company moves forward with aggressive internet
efforts.
Mecom is a European newspaper group that has reported growing losses year on
year as reliance on the land news industry becomes less and less viable. Mecom’s
latest strategy is diversification – maintain the land news industry because it
is still partially profitable and many individuals still use newspapers as their
primary source for information – but also diversify holdings to include
lucrative industries like the online casinos. Internet gambling is a huge market
in Europe and Mecom’s new efforts to enter this market has the potential to
seriously bolster the company’s yearly profits.
And while adding forms of online casino gambling may be a new step for Mecom,
branching heavily into the internet industry has been the company’s strategy for
a while now and the company has more than 200 Web sites currently in operation. |
