Run Down of IGREA Supporters: 48
Congressman Barney Frank is one of the online casino gambling industry’s
strongest supporters and advocates. Not long after the 2006 Unlawful Internet
Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) passed, Frank spoke out against the bill and
all that it sought to do to limit internet gambling in the United States. Last
Spring Congressman Frank proposed a bill that would neutralize the already
highly controversial online casinos gambling ban and instead license and
regulate the industry.
Over the past year Congressman Frank and his aides have gone to great lengths to
educate politicians and members of Congress who unknowingly voted to pass the
UIGEA about the dangers and repercussions that the U.S. could face if the online
casinos gambling ban continues. Frank’s bill has slowly gained support over the
past year and more and more politicians are pledging their support to HR 2046
Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act (IGREA).
IGREA seeks to put the U.S. back into accord with the GATS international trade
agreements that are currently being violated by enforcing the UIGEA. Other
countries have no access to the U.S. online casinos betting industry that is
still prevalent and the U.S. had questionable rights to alter commitments in the
GATS treaty through the World Trade Organization. Other concerns surrounding the
UIGEA come from the banking and financial sectors who claim that the proposed
UIGEA accompanying regulations would cause extreme stress on the U.S. financial
systems.
