Online Gambling Hasn't Happened Yet
The European Commission is still actively seeking the end to all EU member-state
online casinos gambling monopolies in the ten or so countries that operate under
protective and restricted legislation. The French government has been in
negotiations with the Commission for some time now regarding the country’s state
gambling monopoly, and just recently the French media reported that the
government is seriously considering opening the industry through a stringent
online casinos licensing and regulation process. And though most industry
analysts believe that the government will most assuredly pass the new and
anticipated legislation, some speculate that the government is continuing to
stall the process as long as possible.
The French Prime Minister Francois Fillon noted that the country is still in the
review and evaluation phase of the process. Basically, the French government
continues to analyze the effect and implications of opening the state online
casinos gambling industry which is causing delays in the government actually
passing the new legislation. The French government commissioned a study late
last year that looked into the implications of online casinos gambling in the
country and according to some sources, the report was not actually in favor of
opening the French online gambling market.
But the pressure from the Commission to comply with EU regulations regarding
restricting trade and services between EU member-states could be a large
motivating factor behind the new President’s push to open the online casinos
gambling industry in the coming months. The state-run monopoly, Francaise de
Jeux, is actually quite successful and there is no doubting that the French
government makes a pretty penny from the current legislation that allows for the
French government to exclusively benefit from the nation’s internet gambling
industry. |
