Changing the Face of U.S. Gambling
The United States is currently in this bizarre transition period where online
casinos gambling is prohibited by the federal government, but at the same time
there are no repercussions in place for U.S. gamblers, just the actually
internet gambling companies and payment processors. What that means is that U.S.
citizens are still able to gamble at the foreign internet gambling operators if
they can find a way to deposit and receive funds.
Additionally, what furthers compounds the entire online casinos gambling debate
is the fact that forms of internet based gambling (but not online casinos
gambling in particular) are legal in the United States within individual state
borders. This murky area of legal state internet gambling activity is where the
hopes of online poker gambling lie.
The California legislators are currently largely supporting a bill that proposes
a study into legalizing online casinos poker gambling in the state despite the
federal legislation against foreign internet gambling. What many in the state
assert at this point is that the federal regulation specifically concerns
foreign online casinos and further only applies to gambling transactions
occurring with financial institutions operating in other states – what this
means is that individual states would apparently have the right to independently
decide whether or not they want to license and regulate online gambling and
poker within the State.
This is actually debatable at this point, but legislators in California, and
interest groups pushing for the legalization of online casinos poker gambling in
the state assert that state-run internet poker will not run into problems with
the federal prohibitive legislation. |
