A New Era for France
The French government is seemingly turning tide and planning to open up the
French online casinos gambling market in the coming year. The French politicians
have noted that the changes in governmental policy regarding internet gambling
are because of technology changes rather than as a reaction to the European
Commission’s investigation into Frances gambling and betting monopoly. And
although the changes are not written in stone right now and are subject to
changes, the French news organizations have commented that the government plans
to license and regulate the nation’s online casinos gambling industry in stark
contrast to the current internet gambling and betting monopoly that has drawn
international criticism.
The current European Commissioner, Charlie McCreevy, has publicly and
essentially waged war on the ten European member states that are violating EU
policy in favor of and online casinos gambling monopoly that effectively shuns
all other EU states. McCreevy and individuals at the Commission have been in
talks with the French government for many months now, and although French
officials claim to the contrary, it certainly seems as though France is at least
in part adjusting the nation’s online casinos gambling policy because of
pressure from the Commission.
Whatever the reasoning though, online casino gambling companies operating in
other EU member states are certainly breathing a sigh of relief that at least
one more nation will operate internet gambling in compliance with EU policy.
Although the new legislation is still awaiting final approval by President
Sarkozy, the anticipated change in policy is already being heralded as a “new
era” for online casinos gambling and betting and the news organizations
anticipate that the licensing and regulation of the industry could take effect
as early as the end of this year. |
