It's Actually Quite Lucrative
The Swedish online casinos gambling industry is extremely lucrative for the
country’s government – but unfortunately for other EU member-states, that is the
only entity benefiting from the healthy Swedish gambling market. Sweden is one
of the ten EU countries currently ignoring investigation by the European
Commission and continuing to operate an online casinos gambling monopoly that
specifically blocks out foreign competition and access to the Swedish market.
Svenske Spel is a state-run internet gambling company that offers a slew of
different forms of online casinos games specifically for the Swedish market and
huge portions of the company’s revenue goes directly back to the Swedish
government. At this point the Swedish government is extremely reticent to alter
online casino gambling legislation despite the Commission’s pressure because
many industry analysts surmise that it could still be years before a case is
brought up before the European Court of Justice regarding the government
monopoly. Additionally, many anticipate that any fines would still justify the
extremely lucrative gambling revenues that the government uses to pay for social
programs and fund other areas of the government’s budget.
Seveske Spel is just one of the several online casinos gambling monopolies
operating in the EU at this time, and like Svenske Spel, the other monopolies
are showing similarly high levels of profit and annual increases in gaming
revenue. For the countries that have operated internet gambling monopolies for
several years, the prospect of losing that source of revenue can seem
impossible. After all, many of the government’s budgets are structured to
include the millions in profits from online gambling monopolies. |
