1st Technology Needs Recourse
In an ongoing saga concerning the online casino industry, 1st Technology was
awarded control over Bodog Entertainment Group’s U.S. domain names. Once 1st
Technology had control last week, the technology development company
discontinued bodog.com without warning to Bodog players. Bodog has failed to
comply with U.S. rulings concerning patent infringement – a judgment of $48.6
million dollars to 1st Technology. Once Bodog failed to pay the damages, 1st
Technology took the case to an enforcement court that awarded 1st Technology the
company’s online casinos domain names as a way to recoup damages.
Only when 1st Technology was awarded the domain names did lawyers and
representatives from Bodog begin to take notice – but even the discussions have
not yet been satisfactorily concluded because 1st Technology chose to close down
the Bodog.com site just last week. Unfortunately for 1st Technology though, a
Bodog online casino Web site reappeared the next day under a new domain name:
Newbodog.com.
Despite the fact that Bodog has another online casino gambling site up and
running so soon, the decision to shut down the main Bodog Web site has prompted
further discussions between 1st Technology and the Bodog Entertainment Group.
Bodog has not yet publically commented on why the company chose not to appear
for the two court dates, but a lawyer for the group did comment on the alleged
patent infringement. Basically, a Bodog lawyer noted that proper and legal
service would be an essential ingredient in proving the $48.6 million default
judgment. In general, Bodog is seems to take every opportunity possible to thumb
its hypothetical nose at the U.S. government and attempt by the U.S. to enforce
legal action against offshore online casino gambling companies.
