A New Era in Gambling
Few countries that allow online casino and land-based gambling have a lower
problem gambling rate than the UK – and to most that statistic is fairly
surprising. In the past several years the UK government has been much more
permissive with the gambling industry than previous years and many feared that
this would lead to an increase in crime and addiction within the industry. But,
smartly, the UK Gambling Commission was created alongside the new online casinos
and land-based gambling regulations as a way to constantly monitor the industry,
impose necessary regulations, and to prevent underage gambling and protect
problem gamblers from exploitation in the gambling industry.
The UK Gambling Commission has consistently enforced a new policy of social
responsibility on the part of the online casino and gambling companies. Not only
is the Commission looking out for the public’s best interest, but new
regulations in the UK now require that the industry itself take the initiative
to find ways to prevent many of the ills previously associated with online
casinos and gambling industries.
The online casino and gambling companies are forced to come up with solutions to
problems like underage gamblers gambling online and additive gambling. Instead
of imposing regulations and minimum standards the UK Gambling Commission
monitors the online casino companies and assesses that they are actively seeking
out and implementing new ways to prevent criminal activity and more. In addition
to proactively solving gambling related problems, the gambling operators must
now contribute to research and education about problem gambling as well as
contribute to treatment measures. |
