A Hard Stance on Tax Evasion
The Swedish government is not taking a recent tax evasion case lightly. Some
high-ranking officials at EPR Investments are under arrest in Sweden for tax
evasion allegations related to an online casino site that EPR previously owned.
Recently, the Swedish government announced investigations into several internet
gaming sites that were located in Sweden. Specifically, the Swedish government
sent questionnaires to several online casinos looking for detailed information
on the exactly what branches of the business the companies operated in Sweden.
Unfortunately for EPR, the Swedish government apparently found enough
information to warrant arresting several of the key EPR officials in a tax
evasion case.
The Swedish government is continuing to investigate the case against EPR
Investments and is looking to clarify questions relating to the where the
company based the majority of the online casino poker site operations, and even
more significantly, the Swedish government is investigating where the EPR
funneled the money from the sale of Multipoker.com to PartyGaming. PartyGaming
purchased the online casinos poker site from EPR Investments nearly two years
ago, and now, the Swedish government alleges that the company used a front in
the British Virgin Islands to avoid paying taxes on the money and then funneled
the funds from the sale into Swiss Bank accounts.
At this point, the Swedish investigation is continuing, and the allegations are
just that – accusations. But the online casino information sites are heavily
preoccupied with the current Swedish investigation, even Sveriges Radio is
carrying in depth information as the Swedish government releases new reports.
