No Online Casinos in Singapore
A local police raid in Singapore found several Internet cafés were offering
patrons more than just coffee and internet access. The local police raid found
the three cafes were offering online casino gambling and betting. Under the
Common Gaming Houses Act, online gambling is illegal.
The local police seized computers, money, property, and more from the three
locations as well as arresting 18 people connected to the Internet cafes.
Specifically, the police seized 84 computers, 21 fruit machines (also known as
slot machines), and cash totaling more than S$20,000.
Police only kept seven of the 18 people arrested in custody on illegal online
casino gambling charges, the other 11 were released after initial investigations
and questioning. The police will continue to investigate the situation at each
café and prosecute accordingly.
