Secure Gambling the Preferred Choice
Online casino gambling in Sweden may be a largely government run monopoly, but
it seems that Swedes actually prefer the safety and security that comes with
gambling at Svenska Spel. Many in the European Economic Area protest the fact
that the Swedish government still holds a monopoly over online casinos gambling.
And though the European Union is expected to intercede on behalf of the other
countries in the EEA benefiting from a more open internet gambling policy, the
government has no short-term plans to open the Swedish internet gambling market.
The Swedish government recently reported the online casino gambling monopoly’s
2007 third quarter results – and they were certainly higher than many
anticipated. Svenska Spel reported an impressive increase in profits in all
sectors of the internet gambling industry: online bingo, sports betting, and
online casinos. The CEO at Svenska Spel, Jesper Kärrbrink commented on the
revenue reports, "the positive pattern is continuing and we expect a record
dividend for sports this year."
The third quarter showed a surge in the sheer number of online casino players
gambling at the sites, and Kärrbrink attributes much of this quarter’s success
to the fact “gamers choose [the] secure poker [Svenska Spel] platform over
others. The reported profit third quarter came in at $215 million (SEK 1.4
billion in local currency).
Online casino industry analysts predict that Svenska Spel will have a
significant increase in market share in 2007 over the 55 percent market share in
2006. Though the exact figures wont be released for months into the new year,
revenue figures already indicate that the online casinos company is doing
increasing well in terms of players and revenue.
