The U.S. Has Three Choices
It seems that the climate surrounding the online casino gambling industry will
not get any easier in the coming months. Right now there are three bills before
Congress addressing the internet gambling legislation. Each of the bills differ
on how to address the online casinos currently still operating in the U.S., yet
each representative pushing the bills have valid points that would certainly
improve the current legislation forbidding online casinos gambling transactions
through U.S. banks.
First to propose new legislation is Congressman Barney Frank, chairman o the
House Financial Services Committee. Barney’s solution for the online casino
gambling industry is licensing and regulation. He proposes that the Federal
government handle the licensing process, that way the U.S. still has access to
online casinos, yet the government can ensure that the system isn’t getting
abused.
Next up is a well-received bill pushing for a 12-month research study into all
of the issues surrounding online casino gambling. Nevada Representative Shelley
Berkley has presented to Congress a bill that stresses that because of the
current climate surrounding online casino gambling, the U.S. should step back
and take an unbiased survey of online casino gambling in the U.S. market, and
find out comprehensive information concerning the internet gambling industry.
Then you have the Florida representative, Bob Wexler, supporting online poker
rather than online casino gambling. His bill seeks to exclude online poker from
the UIGEA restrictions—and beyond that, none of his legislation really affects
the core issues facing the online casino industry.
