Frank's Legislation has Technological Support
The current climate of debate in the United States over online casino gambling
is unsettled, and new ideas concerning how to fix the issues that the UIGEA
brought to light change on a daily basis. Right now though, there are two main
solutions proposed before congress to address online casinos in the U.S. Both
Congressman Barney Frank and Nevada Representative Shelley Berkley have
presented bills to Congress, now it comes down to which is best for the U.S.,
and can gain Congress’s support.
Though Berkley’s bill is popular in Congress, Frank’s bill is gaining
international support from the technology company the UC Group. The UC Group has
developed the technology to regulate online casinos though monitoring the age
and pinpoint an exact location for all online casinos, poker, and betting
gamblers. And beyond just those parameters, their technology is designed to flag
compulsive online casino gamblers and money laundering schemes. Already internet
gambling companies and countries around the world are using this technology to
regulate the industry.
The UC Group specializes in payment services, and are currently vocally
supporting Franks bill through an initiative called the “Safe and Secure
Internet Gambling Intiative.” To push this initiative in the U.S., the UC Group
has partnered with an international accounting firm, Baker Tilly. The
Initiative’s spokesperson, Jeff Sandman, says, “The Initiative is both to
educate parts of the public as well as to garner grassroots support from other
companies, organizations, and individuals for the legislation,”
Basically the Initiative is lobbying for support of Franks bill because it would
bring online casinos back into the United States, but the technology would allow
the U.S. much more control over who gambles, where, and when. Frank’s bill would
counteract the UIGEA, and allow online casino gambling through a federal
licensing and regulation process.
