Poker for Your BlackBerry
Just recently the first international company in Spain offered real-money online
casino gambling for mobile devices. Now, it seems the U.S. is keeping up
technologically with the new WPT Texas Hold’em for the BlackBerry. Though
gambling at online casinos is illegal in the U.S., and as it online poker for
that matter, the BlackBerry and mobile phone market is not affected by the UIGEA,
so Hands On Mobile, the company releasing the WPT Texas Hold’em game, is in the
clear.
Hands On Mobile has teamed up with Blackberry’s BPlay to offer this new game for
the Blackberry. Once the Texas Hold’em game was released, BPlay Senior Vice
President Nicholas Reichenbach commented on offering World Poker Tour brand for
the BlackBerry. “WPT is the number one brand in [online casino] poker and we're
thrilled to deliver this leading title to our BlackBerry users who are embracing
entertainment as an integral part of the mobile experience.”
And just like the BlackBerry, the WPT Texas Hold’em has been designed with
ease-of-use in mind. All players have to do is logon to the BPlay.com Web site
from their mobile device, then follow the commands until they have the option to
download WPT Texas Hold’em for a one–time fee of $8.95. After paying that, the
players have unlimited use of the game. Like the online casinos games offered in
Spain, real-time betting is a benefit for gamers. Though this could end up being
more of a drawback since most Blackberry users are already addicted to their
mobile devices.
Then, as an added incentive and to really launch this new BlackBerry offering,
the companies involved, BPlay, Hands On Mobile, and WPT are hosting a launch
party tournament of sorts for the game on May 9, 2007. The tournament winner
gets a seat at the Season VI WPT Invitational in Los Angeles. This is an annual,
VIP, invitation only celebrity event where the lucky winner gets to hob-knob
with the top names in both Hollywood, and in the poker playing industry.
