Another Country Brings in Online Casino Gambling
No doubt about it, the land-based and online casino gambling industries are
lucrative—in fact they bring in billions revenue in countries all over the
world. So there is little question as to why Papua New Guinea is the latest to
pass legislation that will bring online casinos (and land-based ones too) to the
country.
Many countries with lagging economies legalize online casinos as a way to fund
other programs and industries. For Papua New Guinea, the online casinos will
give them access to a global economy, and thus much more revenue than the
government is currently bringing in. Also, by legalizing the land-based casinos
in addition to the online casino companies, they are encouraging tourism and
development.
The term for the land-based casino licenses was decided at 10 years per license,
and each of the 20 provinces in Papua New Guinea will have access to one casino
license. The online casinos are a different beast altogether. The
parliamentarians all voted in favor of the new gambling legislation, and that
includes allowing foreign-owned online casino companies into Papua New Guinea.
According to the Prime Minister, Sir Micael Somare, online casino companies
could be a real key to the new gambling legislation. He says, “Existing
technology can bar people from within the country participating in the type of
gambling that allow only foreigners based in other countries to participate.”
